Princess Diana bodyguard death: 'Mystery driver' behind theory speaks out

London: A conspiracy theory which suggests Barry Mannakee, Diana's former bodyguard, was murdered in an elaborate car crash plot has resurfaced 30 years after his death. It is claimed that a "mystery driver" orchestrated a collision between the motorbike on which Mannakee was travelling on and a 17-year-old motorist.

The theory alleges that a "mystery estate car" caused the teen motorist, Nicola Chopp, to pull out into the path of the Suzuki bike on which Mannake was a passenger. Mannake was flung from the bike and tragically died from fatal spine injuries as a result of the horrific road accident on May 14, 1987.
Peddlers of the theory claim the "mystery estate car" did not stop and was never seen again. This led to claims that Mannake, who Diana described as "the greatest love I've ever had", was taken out by the secret services due to his closeness to the then married Princess. Now a controversial Channel 4 documentary about the Princess of Wales, Diana: In Her Own Words, has reignited the conspiracy theory once more.
In secret tapes aired in the film, Diana says of Mannakke's death: "He was the greatest love I've ever had.
"I was quite happy to give it all up ... just to go off and live with him.
"And he kept saying he thought it was a good idea too.
"[But] it was all found out and he was chucked out [of royal protection]. Then he was killed. I think he was bumped off."One conspiracy theory suggests the "mystery estate car" dazzled Chopp with its headlights. But the Independent reports that it has tracked down the "mystery driver", who has explained his series of events.
