In order to make the city safe for women, the district administration police launched a bus service exclusively for women on Tuesday morning.
The app-based bus service will cater to women in Gurgaon and other NCR cities kick-starting “Sabhya Roads, Bhavya Gurgaon” – a road safety initiative for Gurgaon.
Navdeep Singh Virk, Commissioner of Police, Gurgaon and R S Kalsi, Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday.
ZipGo is a smartphone based on-demand bus service which will operate like chartered bus services. It will allow users to search for buses operating on their desired routes, book a seat on a selected bus and then track the bus on their smartphone.
It is based on the similar format as the app based on-demand taxi services such as Ola or Uber. The passenger will have to pay Rs 29 for a single trip.
The service will primarily target working women and provide a reliable commuting system as well as reduce the usage of personal vehicles on road.
The MoU highlighted the deployment of 100 Sadak Suraksha Sevaks, traffic signboard across the corridor and major intersections, providing vehicles to Gurgaon Police for conducting road safety awareness programmes and offering refresher training courses to commercial vehicle drivers and general public at Maruti Driving Schools.
The corridors identified covers high density traffic stretches like IFFCO Crossing, Signature Tower Crossing, Atul Kataria roundabout, MDI roundabout and HUDA City Centre Crossing.
Additionally, the initiative will cover locations like IMT Manesar junction, Sector-23 Crossing and the crossing near Hero Motocorp factory. In the initial stage, the Maruti authorities have planned to invest around Rs 5 crore, which will be scaled up as the programme progresses.
