DUSU elections have been always battle between various student associations trying to gain political control at Delhi University. But Northeastern students ask what’s in store for them.
‘I perceive the elections as a means for a few people to further their political ambitions. There is no immediate impact of the elections and as such, the elections are of little use to me. There is a feeling of disconnect between people in posts and students,’ said Priyanuj, a student of Delhi School of Economics.
Another DU student said ‘I don’t even know properly how these elections are conducted. I just know we have to go and vote on particular date assigned for elections. Neither I haven’t seen much effort taken by student political leaders.’
The student associations like ABVP and NSUI despite having group of north eastern students within their organisations fail to win confidence of many students from same community.
‘Changes will come slowly. There are north eastern students who are fighting for post in colleges like KMC, Ramjas, satyavati and all,’ said Subrato, head of NSUI’s north east student group. This year NSUI has taken up awareness and issue relating to North east in their agenda for DUSU elections.
