Senior BJP party leaders alleged that the party had fielded weak candidates against all the former ministers of AAP. “I will not contest this election as I want to focus myself at all the 70 assembly seats to make Delhi free from anarchy,” said Satish Upadhyay in a statement minutes before the second list was announced on Tuesday night.
Ashish Sood, former DUSU president who is currently the Vice-President in Delhi unit and also three time general secretary was also denied ticket this time. He was however, seeking ticket from Janakpuri from where BJP decided to field party veteran Jagdish Mukhi but according to sources he was expecting ticket from Malviya Nagar in case Upadhyay is dropped. Surprising, the party cadres BJP picked up a senior party leader, reportedly member in executive committee, Nupur Sharma from Malviya Nagar. Sharma contested from Hauz Rani ward in MCD election 2012 but was defeated by Congress candidate Nutan Kochar.
BJP has also dropped Ajay Malhotra, son of BJP veteran V K Malhotra from Greater Kailash but fielded a former councillor Rakesh Gulia, husband of sitting BJP councillor from Chirag Delhi Sunita Gulia. From Mehrauli, BJP has fielded former South Delhi mayor and sitting councillor Sarita Chaoudhary and from Vikaspuri it had picked up a Poorvanchali Sanjay Singh, who had rebelled in 2008 and contested as an independent. Thus, BJP have finally fielded seven women, eight sitting councillors, a former councillor and two Poorvanchal candidates.
