UP police set up STF to probe state IPL players

Lucknow: Indian Premier League (IPL) spot fixing controversy has now engaged the Uttar Pradesh police, as the Special Task Force (STF) has been asked to probe into the role of the state players in the IPL, here on Wednesday.
Additional director general of police(law and order) Arun Kumar told reporters here on Wednesday , ‘we have worked on the leads give by the Mumbai and Delhi counterparts after some bookies were arrested in Kanpur, Meerut, Ghaziabad and Varanasi. We have agreed to co-operate with them.’
Refusing to divulge further he said, ‘I cannot share the details of the players involved in the racket as investigation was till underway and STF has been engaged in the probe.’
Sources in the UP police confirmed that around 10 cricketers of the state were under the lens of the state police for their role in the spot fixing during the just concluded IPL.
The cricketers who are under the scanners are Suresh Raina, Imtiaz Ahmed and Ankit Singh Rajput of the Chennai Super Kings, Bhuvanesh Kumar, Ali Murtaza and Ekalavya Dwivedi of the Pune Warriors, Rudra Pratap Singh of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawla of the Kings XI Punjab and one more player. Sources said that very soon some of the players would be interrogated by the STF to clarify their stand.
There is a lot of buzz over no ball on the last delivery of the match sent by Royal Challengers Banglore pacer R P Singh, which cost his team the match against Chennai Super Kings.
