In two separate incidents, two senior citizens were found dead in mysterious circumstances in the capital on Friday.
In the first incident, 55-year-old Dwarak Prasad Jaiswal was found dead on the roadside in east Delhi's Sonia Vihar. Jaiswal's body was recovered around 11 pm on Thursday by a passerby, who informed the police.
Jaiswal was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors said he was attacked on the chest by a heavy object. 'Police is waiting for postmortem report to provide them with some clue into the case,' said a police official.
'Prima facie it appears that personal enmity might be the reason behind the victim's murder, as the valuables he was carrying were left intact. A case regarding the incident has been registered and hunt is on to nab the culprits,' said a police official.
Jaiswal's family members said he used to run a general store in Uttar Pradesh's Loni area. At the time of the incident, he was returning home, said the official.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old woman was found strangled to death with her own scarf inside her residence in Nihal Vihar on Friday. The incident came to light Friday morning when the victim's family members entered in her room and found her lying on the bed.
The victim, identified as Dhanpati, resided with her son and daughter-in-law at Gautam Nagar in west Delhi's Narela area. Robbery might have been the reason behind the incident as her room was found ransacked.
The victim's family members, along with her neighbours, are being questioned to find out any clue about the incident, said a police officer.
According to a police source, initial enquiry reveals the entry of an outsider inside victim's room as the door was found locked from inside and it was broken open by her family members. Her family told police that she had her dinner last night and went inside her room to sleep.
'This morning when she did not open her room, we got suspicious. After repeated knocks when she did not open the door, we had to break it,' her family members reported.
