Two immigration officials beaten up at IGI Airport

In a bizarre incident, a man thrashed two immigration officials when asked to produce his passport at IGI Airport on Tuesday morning.

According to the FIR, a copy of which is with Millennium Post, Chandan Singh, head constable posted at the immigration counter at the airport, asked the accused Joginder Singh  to show his travel documents.

He showed his air tickets but when the head constable asked him to produce his passport, he refused and rather showed his emergency certificate (EC). EC is a one-way travel document that authorises Indian citizens to enter India in an emergency situation. It is issued to individuals who have lost his/her passport.

But the officer asked the accused to accompany him to deportee room for questioning. On hearing this, accused Joginder lost his cool and tried to snatch his travel documents from the officer. When Joginder failed to get hold of his documents from the head constable, he allegedly entered into the immigration counter and slapped him. On seeing this, another head constable Mangal Singh intervened and tried to explain Joginder the security procedure to be followed while travelling with an EC.

The incident took an ugly turn when Mangal was also allegedly slapped by Joginder when he asked him to ‘behave properly’.

Later, the two head constables filed a police complaint against the accused.  ‘The accused has obstructed government officials from performing their duty and has allegedly beaten them. He has been booked under the section of 186 and 353 of IPC,’ said MI Haider, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (IGI Airport).
