Rawat, who met Raju in New Delhi, told him that the Pantnagar airport was under-utilised and it could be used for travelling from destinations like Dehradun-Delhi-Lucknow.
He added that it would happen only if the Central government approved new air services and the airport might also be developed as a cargo hub for exporting goods.
He requested the Central government to provide more facilities for refuelling.
At present, a limited number of passengers are carried in small aircraft from three air-strips – Pittoragarh, Chinyalisaund (Uttarkashi) and Gauchar (Chamoli).
The Chief Minister also demanded an approval of an airport/ airstrip at Chaukhitya and the Union minister has assured him that the region would be surveyed first and then a green signal be given for the project.
Rawat appreciated the new civil aviation policy launched this year which aims to promote regional connectivity.
