Surprisingly, some of these companies, even after violating the norms, were allowed by the transport department to run their operations. According to the data provided by transport department, the companies Easy Cabs (1,490 cars), Mega Cab (1,004 cars), Meru Cab (1,963 cars) are eligible to run private taxi operations in the city. Similarly, Chanson Cab (417 cars), Yo Cab (97 cars) and Air Cab (100 cars), do not fulfil the norms of minimum 500-cars-fleet.
According to the 2006 radio taxi notification, a company should have more than 500 cabs in their fleet to run business in the national Capital. A senior transport department official also disclosed that Rs 15 lakh is deducted from their deposit as penalty for not maintaining their required fleet. “We have been asking them to provide us the actual numbers of cars in their fleet. Strict action will be taken against them as per the law if they do not follow the rule. If they don’t upgrade their fleet within one year, their deposit money will be deducted as penalty for violating the norms”, said the transport department official.
He further said the transport department had deducted the deposit of some of these companies earlier but “due to the shortage of public transport and for convenience of the people, the department have not taken any of strict action against the defaulters”.
