This Olympics, Bolt became the newest god

After a fort-night of sporting extravaganza, India are returning home with a record medal haul at the Olympics. Going by the country's show in the past Games, few would have expected India to win as many as six medals.

Apart from India's great show, London Olympics had enough material to get woven into folklore. The biggest sporting event in world, involving athletes from over 200 countries, once again proved that human endeavour knows no bounds.

With the culmination of the Games, the world of swimming has lost a titan of the pool – Michael Phelps, arguably the greatest sportsperson in Olympic history. Though he took a little time to get into the grove, Phelps said farewell after setting the pool ablaze with some breath-taking performance. The last hurrah saw the American bid adieu with 22 Olympic medals comprising 18 golds.

The present generation, having already been witness to Phelps's miracle, should consider themselves fortunate to catch the fastest man on earth in action in successive Games – Usain Bolt. The Jamaican showman opened his campaign with a Games record in 100m, followed it up with characteristic lightening speed to win 200m and then anchored his country in 4x100m relay to a world record time.
