Tatas drive in Nano with a Twist

Unveiling the new car, Ranjit Yadav, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said that the Nano Twist came into being following consumer feedback where - post 2012  - about 45 per cent of ‘Nano owners’ were found to be under 34 years in the survey of the India population that revealed 55 per cent of people being below 25 years.

‘This Nano represents cutting edge in its class with brushless motor technology and active return steering features and is good for cities,’ he said while adding that lowest turning circle radius of 4 metres, sporty interiors, new gearshift console, Damson Purple signature colour, luxurious barley beige interiors and chrome accents, have been introduced to cater to the growing customer base of young, trendy urbanites.

This new addition to the Nano range, with its newly-designed air extractor grill, C-pillar trim and colours like Pearl White, Royal Gold, Papaya Orange, Meteor Silver and Dazzle Blue, will be available in the XT version which replaces the previous top of the line LX version of Nano range, he said.

Germany’s BMW clocks record global sales

Frankfurt: Keeping in line with the marvellous performance of luxury car segment worldwide, German top-of-the-range carmaker BMW said on  monday that it sold more cars than ever before in 2013 and it aims to top that number again this year.

BMW said in a statement it sold a total 1.964 million vehicles last year, ‘an increase of 6.4 per cent from the previous record year of 2012.’

The group owns three brands, BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce and also manufactures motorbikes.
Global sales of the BMW brand alone rose by 7.5 per cent to 1.655 million units.

The group also sold a total 305,030 Minis worldwide and Rolls-Royce sales were up 1.5 per cent at 3,630. Motorcycle sales increased by 8.3 per cent to 115,215 units. ‘The BMW group posted record sales once again in 2013,’ said sales and marketing chief Ian Robertson. ‘Despite the prevailing headwinds in many markets, we aim to increase sales and make 2014 another record year,’ he said.
