The Congress was on Saturday headed for a two-third majority in the 117-seat Punjab assembly, with veteran Amarinder Singh set to return as Chief Minister of the border state.

The AAP on Saturday said it was disappointed over losing the Punjab election but added that becoming the main opposition in the border state was also an achievement.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday defeated Amarinder Singh in the Lambi assembly seat by a margin of over 22,000 votes. But Amarinder Singh won the Patiala-Urban seat comfortably.

The AAP said on Saturday it was disappointed it did not win the Punjab assembly election but added that even becoming the main opposition was an achievement.

The Congress was surging towards a clear majority in Punjab on Saturday with its candidates leading in 61 of the 117 assembly seats.
