Students can now pursue dual degrees

The UGC in its meeting held on 31 July has cleared the proposal to allow a student to pursue more than one degree at a time.
However, the student would be permitted to take admission in only one regular programme and other programmes would have to be pursued through distance education or from an open university.

The UGC is all set to issue notification for the implementation of its decision by universities across the country. Currently, students pursuing an undergraduate degree can only go for short-term certificate courses offered by the same university where they are enrolled for the programme.

Commission chairman Ved Parkash told Millennium Post, ‘Now such students who have the potential to pursue more than one degree at the same time will have the facility to do so. They would be able to enroll themselves in two or more degree programme simultaneously under regular/distance and private candidates programmes from a different universities.
