Stabbed to death over a cuppa

A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death while his younger brother was critically injured, when a fight broke out over a cup of tea. Apparently, one of the the victims, Nawab, had refused when one of the three accused to asked him for a cup of tea on credit.

The victims' mother runs a teashop outside her house in Seelampur area of north east district. At around 10 pm on Tuesday, the victim's mother was inside her house while Nawab was manning the shop. A person who was identified as Neema entered the shop and asked him to make tea for him and that he would pay later.

When Nawab denied as the accused already had a huge outstanding bill, an angry Neema brought two of his friends and began fighting with Nawab. Irfan, Nawab's elder brother, alerted by then, joined the fight as well. . The accused were carrying knife and bottles with them. In the following scuffle, Irfan was stabbed to death by one of accused while his younger brother was critically injured. The accused fled from the scene.

'Nawab and Irfan were taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital where Irfan was declared brought dead and Nawab was treated for his injuries,' said a senior police officer. We have registered an FIR in this regard and a manhunt has been launched to nab the criminals, he added.
