Dedicated cycle tracks will soon be ready in Gurgaon after Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in a review meeting on Sunday directed Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to build dedicated corridors in and around HUDA City Centre to reduce congestion and bring down pollution levels in the city.
Khattar has set the first week of March as the deadline for starting the project – before the Happening Haryana global summit which will be flagged in the city. Both MCG and HUDA have started work on dedicated cycle corridors in their areas, officials said. While MCG has floated tenders for a 7.5 km-long cycle track along the Old Delhi-Gurgaon road from Mahavir Chowk to Dundahera border as part of a road-widening project, HUDA is planning to build an 8 km dedicated track starting from HUDA City Centre Metro station and running along the one-way road through Galleria Market to Golf Course Road.
MCG officials said construction of the cycle tracks will be a part of the road widening of the entire stretch of Old Gurgaon-Delhi road. The dedicated cycle tracks on these new widened roads will be around 2.5 m wide and the project is likely to be completed in one-and-half year.
MCG executive engineer Abhinav Verma said: “In the first phase, a cycle track will be constructed from Mahavir Chowk to Atul Kataria Chowk. The stretch will have four lanes for motorised vehicles, service lanes, cycle tracks and footpaths on both sides. In the second phase, the road from Atul Kataria Chowk to Dundahera Border will have six lanes, including a separate cycle track on both sides of the road.”
