Sisodia vows to set things right in school admissions

Delhi’s new education minister said that the society should contribute towards the government fund created for education. It was probably for the first time that an education minister held his first meeting with senior officers of the department in the full glare of media.

‘There should be Rs 1.25 expenditure for an allocation of Rs 1 on education sector, society should spend 25 paisa from its own pocket,’ said Sisodia in his first interaction with the media immediately after assuming office at Delhi Secretariat.

‘Education is not for profit making. It’s for nation building. I want to make it clear to private schools in Delhi that only those who want to contribute to nation building will exist in education system,’ he told Amit Singhla, director of school education in Delhi.

It was the first time that a minister had a meeting with the education director and other officers in the full glare of media. Sisodia directed the officers to convene a meeting on Monday and to come with all the relevant details and data.

As per the information provided by Singhla to Sisodia there are 203 schools in the pipeline out of which land has been allocated and maps sanctioned for 104 schools. ‘The work has been started for 36 schools in the city,’ he informed to the minister.

Sisodia also directed him to devise a formula for fee structure in the private schools considering all the points including teacher’s salary, cost of the land, management and infrastructure development.
