Sikkim’s EIILM Univ fake: UGC

Cracking a whip on fake universities, the University Grants Commission (UGC), a fund granting arm of Human Resource Development Ministry, on Wednesday de-recognised Sikkim’s EIILM University, putting the total fake universities figures to 22. Cautioning students not to take admission in EILM varsity, the UGC through a public notice said, “The students are hereby cautioned through public notice not to take admission in EILM University, Jorethang, Sikkim and any of its centres/campuses/distance education programmes.”
The notice further said that Centre was informed by Sikkim government that the state had accorded for the dissolution of EILM University in its meeting held on April 28 this year. Earlier, in a notification issued on July 3, the UGC had listed 21 fake universities - eight in UP, six in Delhi and one each in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal. According to the UGC Act, 1956, only a university established by the Central/State/Provincial Act or an institution deemed to be university under Section 3 of the Act is allowed to call themselves as <g data-gr-id="14" style="color: #3b3b3b; font-size: 11px;">university</g>.
