Four students’ organisations – SFI (Student Federation of India), DSU (Democratic Student Union), AISF (All Indian Student Federation) and DSF (Democratic Student Federation) released a joint statement condemning JNUSU leaders’ move.
The statement said that by bringing out the matter in public domain, the two JNUSU office bearers have only contributed to rumour mongering. ‘It is only after they brought out this matter into public domain, that it has been widely covered by the media. Such irresponsible and problematic act on their part only makes the situation more hostile for anyone to speak out against sexual harassment’, it read.
While ensuring that such instances do not get repeated again it appealed students’ community to ‘refrain from entertaining and participating in any public discussion about this.’
It further said that all cases in the Gender sensitisation committee against sexual harassment have to be dealt with keeping the rules in mind, which are same for all students.
