Senior BJP leader Satish Upadhayay has been appointed as the party’s new Delhi unit chief. The announcement was made by national BJP president and union home minister Rajnath Singh at a late night meeting on Tuesday.
Upadhayay is presently the chairman of South DMC standing committee and represents the Malviya Nagar ward. He was earlier chairman of the education committee. On 7 June, Millennium Post was the first to predict his appointment as the next Delhi BJP president. The report was titled, ‘Satish Upadhyay emerges as main contender for Delhi chief post’. The decision of his appointment is apparently the last decision Rajnath Singh makes as party president, with Amit Shah’s elevation to the post almost certain.
Upadhayay, former leader of BJP’s student union, ABVP, was earlier vice president of Delhi BJP.
