Reliance Jio hawk eyes community centres to roll out 4G services

In the name of providing 4G internet services, Reliance Jio is eyeing the community centres of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to open its offices. According to a company official, to roll out Mukesh Ambani’s dream project at 36 big community centres would be needed.

In the letter addressed to the Vice Chairman of DDA, Balvinder Kumar the company has demanded big community centres having 5,000 sq feet of constructed area on lease/ rent to open its offices. ‘We have already surveyed the community centres and they have enough space to run the offices,’ said a senior officer of Reliance Jio who in DDA to pursue the matter. DDA has 59 community centres across the city out of which biggest one is situated in Adhechini, South Delhi having 4611.34 sqm of constructed area. At least 10 community centres of DDA, presently have constructed area of over 555 sqm but all of them have huge open space.

According to sources, the company has also sent such letters to the three MCD’s, NDMC and other government agencies to get their properties on lease or rent for its offices in the city. ‘The rent of government properties is low in comparison to private properties further the agreement is signed in one go for all the properties,’ said a senior officer of DDA explaining the interest of Reliance for government properties in the city. According to Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Jio would commercially launch fourth-generation services in 2015, entailing investments of Rs 70,000 crore, and will cover 5,000 towns or 90% of the country’s urban area and 2.15 lakh villages.

The three MCDs collectively have 275 community centers in the city ?out of which West and Rohini areas have 40 each.
