In the first meeting of elected MLAs of the BJP, election in-charge of Delhi BJP, Nitin Gadkari, has directed the winners to prepare for re-elections. He also convened a separate meeting with defeated candidates to analyse the defeat of the party in each seat.
‘You all must be in touch with the public of our areas and prepare for re-election,’ said Gadkari in a meeting of the 32 elected MLAs of BJP-SAD, at the BJP state head office on Tuesday morning. He had a separate meeting with 38 candidates who lost in the election to analyse reasons for their defeats, with special attention on those seats where the party’s sitting MLAs lost and also where it lost by very small margins.
Earlier in the day, elected BJP MLAs unanimously elected Harsh Vardhan as their leader of the legislature party for the fifth Delhi assembly. Harsh Vardhan’s nomination for the post was proposed by senior BJP leader Jagdish Mukshi and recommended by Nand Kishore Garg. ‘We will never engage in horse trading. We will sit in opposition as we don’t have majority,’ said Vardhan.
‘We are prepared for the re-election at any time. But the leaders of AAP should come forward to form government as Congress is ready to support them,’ said Ram Kishan Singhal, a four time councilor of BJP, who was elected as an MLA for the first time from Adarsh Nagar.
The MLAs of SAD and BJP unanimously favoured the view that going again for election in such a short span would not be good for the city. However, they have no options, as the BJP is short of a majority.
