Though legally prohibited, child labour flourishes across India. Poverty, lack of quality education and the growth of the informal economy are considered to be the key causes propelling child labour in the country. Some other causes include cheap wages and accessibility to factories that can produce the maximum amount of goods for the lowest possible price. The vicious cycle of poverty compels parents to send their children to seek employment, because augmentation of their income is essential for the survival of the family – including the children themselves.
