Petition filed in HC against Stephen’s principal Thampu

The petitioner Subh Kumar Das, administrative officer at the college had alleged that he was forced by Thampu to convert to Christianity. When the news spread, he was suspended for sending out ‘defamatory’ messages against the principal.
A source close to Das claimed the principal had no power to suspend him as the decision has to be taken by governing body of the college.
“Secondly, how can the principal, who has been accused in the matter can take action against the complainant. The principal also hold malice and ill intentions against the complainant,” the source added. Das is also allegedly forced to withdraw his charges against the principal. “Local police is pressuriseand the administrative officer to withdraw charges. This clearly shows bullying nature of the principal,” the source claimed.
It is interesting to note that Valson Thampu is infamous for his bullying nature. Earlier also, he has worked on his whims and fancies to appoint Reverend Monodeep Daniel as Dean (Residence) and KM Mathew as Bursar. It was alleged that the appointments were made for, they were Christians. He had also suspended a student in 2013 on baseless grounds.
“The dean of the college is not a teacher. This has not happened in history of Delhi University. In 2013, the dean was appointed unanimously. In case of KM Mathew, it emerged that he was holding two posts simultaneously. After he resigned from the post earlier this year, an Economics ad-hoc professor was given the charge while many senior teachers could have been appointed,” said a source in the college.
It further revealed a final year philosophy student was suspended in January 2013 when he asked principal why paper cups were not used in college.
Thampu first came into limelight in 2008 because of his ‘fake’ PhD degree in theology. He did not had a PhD degree till 2007 when he was appointed as officer on special duty (OSD) in the college.
According to Delhi University Ordinances, it is essential to have a PhD degree for appointment of principal or OSD. In order to authenticate his appointment for the post of principal, Thampu obtained a Theology degree from Allahabad Agricultural University, which was not recognised by the UGC.
