National power companies NTPC Ltd and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCL) are taking the lead in turning Haryana into one of the country's leaders in electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
The two public sector undertakings (PSUs) are also playing a significant role in feeding the state's companies with electricity as Haryana fast progresses as India's industrial giant.
In yet another landmark in the state's glorious economic saga, Union Minister of State for Power (Independent) Jyotiraditya Scindia dedicated the first phase of the Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project at Haryana’s Jharli village in Jhajjar district on Friday. He also declared commercial operations of the third 500 mw unit and appreciated NTPC’s efforts in commissioning the three units of the station in record time. The minister assured that all efforts would be made to put two more 660-mw units at Jhajjar so that Haryana can transform itself into a power surplus state.
During the day, Scindia also dedicated PowerGrid's 765-kV/ 400-kV/ 220-Kv Bhiwani sub-station to the nation. Haryana's current peak electricity demand is 7,450 mw and according to the Central Electricity Authority's (CEA) 18th Electric Power Survey, this figure is expected to rise to 10,270 mw by fiscal 2016-17 and 14,240MW by 2021-22.
With the increase in power demand, the quantum supplied from the Grid too would increase. The 765/400/220-kV sub-station that has been established at Bhiwani will go a long way in facilitating this massive power transfer.
