WhatsApp suffers outage in India, users unable to send messages

New Delhi: Users on Saturday reported issues with messages, calls and more as WhatsApp faced a global partial outage, with users unable to send messages or access chats, especially on iPhones and Android. WhatsApp is facing partial disruption, with users from India, the US and other regions reporting issues in sending messages and using the app. Hundreds of WhatsApp users globally are experiencing service issues while using the messaging platform.
Downdetector data from both the US and India websites shows a sharp spike in outage reports shortly before 7:40 PM IST with reports peaking at 628 in the US and 655 in India. The most commonly reported issue is sending messages, followed by app-related errors and receiving message failures. According to Downdetector, 89 per cent of users in both regions flagged problems with sending messages, 8–9 per cent faced app-related issues, while 2–3 per cent had trouble receiving messages or using the voice call feature. The surge in complaints indicates a widespread partial outage, although not as extensive as previous disruptions involving Meta platforms.
