UP Cabinet approves transformative development policies

Prayagraj: In a significant Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the Triveni Complex in Prayagraj on Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh government approved 10 key proposals aimed at driving infrastructure development, industrial growth and employment opportunities in the state.

Among the notable decisions was the introduction of the Aerospace and Defence Unit and Employment Promotion Policy 2024, which seeks to attract Rs 50,000 crore in investments and generate employment for 1 lakh youth.

The Cabinet approved several ambitious infrastructure projects, including the construction of two new bridges over the Ganga River — one connecting Hetapatti to Salori and another in Arail. A six-lane bridge over the Ganga is already under construction and a four-lane bridge linking Prayagraj to Jhusi is in the pipeline. A signature bridge over the Yamuna River has also been approved.

The Ganga Expressway will play a key role in improving regional infrastructure by connecting Prayagraj to cities such as Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Chandauli and Ghazipur, while integrating further with the Purvanchal Expressway. Plans to extend the expressway from Varanasi and Chandauli to Sonbhadra are underway, linking it with the national highway network. The Bundelkhand Expressway will connect Prayagraj to Chitrakoot, cementing the city’s status as a vital economic and logistical hub. The Cabinet also approved the construction of multi-super speciality hospitals in Prayagraj, Varanasi and Agra. A Rs 10,000 crore investment proposal for Moradabad is also expected to drive regional development.

The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Policy approved during the meeting aims to attract global industries to Uttar Pradesh, offering up to 80 percent subsidies on land to foreign firms. This initiative, coupled with reforms in the UP Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy, seeks to accelerate the state’s industrial and economic growth.

In the healthcare sector, the Cabinet approved the transfer of the 166-bed Government Combined Hospital in Balrampur to the Medical Education Department, paving the way for the establishment of the Autonomous State Medical College, Balrampur. This conversion of King George Medical University’s Balrampur satellite centre aims to provide specialised healthcare and create new academic opportunities for medical students. To facilitate this, 1,394 academic and non-academic posts have been created.

The Cabinet meeting coincided with the Maha Kumbh, where CM Yogi and his ministers took a ceremonial dip at the Triveni Sangam, emphasising the spiritual and cultural significance of the event.
