MP: LoP Umang Singhar accuses BJP of curbing ‘freedom of expression’

Bhopal: Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Umang Singhar on Wednesday slammed the BJP government for attacking freedom of expression.

Singhar was addressing a press conference during his Jabalpur visit in preparation for the “Jai Bapu, Jai Ambedkar, Jai Samvidhan” rally scheduled in Mhow on January 27. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will launch the year-long Yatra from Mhow, the birthplace of Ambedkar.

The LoP accused the BJP government of running a “dictatorial regime inspired by Nazi and fascist ideologies”.

Singhar accused the BJP government of attacking freedom of expression, suppressing citizens’ rights, and silencing the media. “Cases are being filed against protestors. This is a well-planned strategy to undermine the Constitution,” he alleged.

Singhar alleged that individuals aligned with the RSS are being placed in every Constitutional position. “During the previous Lok Sabha elections, BJP leaders openly stated their intention to change the Constitution. This reveals the party’s ultimate agenda,” he said.

He also criticised RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent remarks on “true freedom,” calling it disrespectful to freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi and Ambedkar and their sacrifices.

Labelling the BJP as “anti-farmer”, Singhar said: “Farmers are protesting and dying, but the government turns a deaf ear.”
