The issue of making Gairsain the state capital rocked the Uttarakhand Assembly on Tuesday too, with Chief Minister Harish Rawat saying that it signified residents’ emotional struggle.
“Gairsain is witnessing large-scale development work that never happened earlier,” Rawat said, while addressing people in Gairsain (Chamoli). He also laid the foundation for development projects worth over Rs 4 crore in the town.
Rawat said: “Our policies primarily rotate around the Himalayas. We have empathy for the poor, artisans and all underprivileged classes of the society. It is a good sign that private universities are showing interest to set up institutes in areas that were once bereft of primary schools. We are giving priorities to village economy, farming, animal husbandry and education. Such policies are in the pipeline, which will encourage private investment in health and education sector to far-flung areas.” He added to boost village economy, the government is creating more demand for locally-made products.
