Man with spear operated upon at RG Kar, in ventilation

Kolkata: A man was successfully operated upon by the doctors at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital who was brought in with a spear pierced in his chest. A major operation was conducted on Friday morning for several hours to remove it.

According to sources, the injured person, identified as Prasen Bauri, a resident of Rathtala in Hooghly got involved in a brawl with some his neighbours on Thursday night over the construction of a house under the Indira Awas Yojana. During the scuffle, someone used a spear to attack Bauri which pierced in his chest damaging the arteries and the lungs. He was rushed to Tarakeshwar Rural Hospital from where he was referred to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. But due to some unknown reasons, he was referred to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. On Friday morning, doctors decided to operate upon him to remove the spear.

Two doctors — R Basu and Sumanta Das — conducted a major operation. Later a portion of the lungs was removed as it was badly damaged. He is undergoing treatment at ITU in R G Kar. Till reports last came in, Bauri is said to be kept in ventilation.
