Focus on Iranian film at Kolkata film fest
Kolkata: Iranian film Women Run with the Wolves has found place at 25th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).
The film is the sole representative of Iranian cinema in the competitive section of the 25th KIFF among 15 films from 15 countries, said actress Laya Zanganeh, who played the lead role in the movie.
"It is a fiction story. It took one year to make the movie. I am glad that the movie had been screened at 25th KIFF," said Amir Athar Soheli, script writer and director of 80 minute film.
Women Run with the Wolves tells the story of Jhaleh, who goes to the war zone after her husband. She tries to hide in a trench and gets trapped there.
Her husband, who had served in the Army, was suppose to return after the end of the war. Yet, there was no news from him for a long time.
Pregnant Jhaleh's brother informs her that her husband had been arrested by the intelligence debriefing (a report of a mission or project).
It might be mentioned that the story of Soheili's film has been weaved on the fringes of the war, but it cannot be considered a war film.
Soheili is a writer and director, who had been actively working the in the film industry for the past 18 years. He had directed several short films.
During the eight-day 25th KIFF that saw its inauguration on November 8 at Netaji Indoor Stadium, 56 foreign film personalities from 24 countries and 60 film personalities from India will be participating as filmmakers and speakers on various important sections (completion and non competition).
There will be 214 feature films and 152 short and documentary films and 152 short and documentary films (shortlisted from 2492 entries) from 76 countries to be screened at 17 screening venues.
