He added he doesn’t have any magic wand but needs the co-operation of 1.5 crore Delhiites to fulfill his promises. ‘Today, every Delhi resident has been sworn in as a minister.
The fight was not about making Arvind Kejriwal the CM. It was about giving power to the people. If we come together, we will be able to defeat corruption. I request all of you to not let arrogance come in your mind ever or another political party will be formed by someone else to uproot us,’ he said.
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung, administered the oath of office and secrecy to him and six cabinet ministers.
Kejriwal said he doesn’t worry about proving majority in the house. ‘We will run the government till we are allowed to and go to the public for re-election whenever it falls,’ he said addressing the mammoth crowd that had gathered at the ground. Later in the day, after the first cabinet meeting followed by separate meetings with various departmental officers, Kejriwal directed officers of power and water (Delhi Jal Board) to hold a detailed meeting on Monday. He assured he would take major decisions on water and power by Wednesday.
‘This government does not belong to just chief ministers and six ministers. Today, the people of Delhi have taken oath for the development of the city and for making it corruption free,’ he added. Kejriwal also administered an oath to thousands of workers present at Ramlila Ground that they would neither give nor take bribe in their lives. ‘You will be provided with a mobile number within two days on which you can complain about corrupt officers and we will catch them red handed,’ he said, adding all officers are not corrupt, but some are.
Amid thunderous applause, cheers and slogans of thousands, Kejriwal talked about how it all started with the Jan Lokpal movement.
‘We came here to demand Jan Lolpal to weed out corruption from the country two years back. We were humiliated and betrayed. We decided to enter politics when all efforts like protests and fasts went unheeded,’ he added. Talking about Anna Hazare, he said, ‘Annaji was of the view that politics is muck but we decided to get into that muck to clean it up.’
In his almost half hour speech he also remembered his colleague Santosh Koli who was a candidate from Seemapuri assembly seat but died in an accident. ‘Since the last two years some changes are happening in this country and I personally feel India will again become golden bird,’ he added.
Kejriwal also praised BJP’s Harsh Vardhan who along with his colleague Sahib Singh Chauhan was at the ground.
The government had sent invitations to all 70 MLAs but neither any MLA nor senior leader of the Congress party was present. ‘Harsh Vardhan is a good man but I can’t say the same about his party,’ said Kejriwal.
