St Xavier’s University hosts national meet on entrepreneurship skills

St Xavier’s University, Kolkata, in association with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Loyola College of Social Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram, and Loyola College, Chennai, hosted a national conference on ‘Entrepreneurship Skills and Mindset among Youth in Higher Educational Institutions.’ The event brought together renowned academics, industry leaders, policymakers, and aspiring entrepreneurs from across India to celebrate innovation, collaboration, and the transformative power of entrepreneurial education.

The conference commenced with the inaugural address by Rev Dr John Felix Raj, SJ, Vice Chancellor of St. Xavier’s University. He emphasised the crucial role of entrepreneurial education in shaping visionary leaders, highlighting the need for higher educational institutions to foster creativity, resilience, and critical thinking among students to prepare them for the dynamic global economy. A distinguished line-up of speakers shared their expertise, including Prof Joy Sen (IIT Kharagpur), Prof Dr Prabal K Sen (XLRI) and several industry leaders.

Over 71 scholarly works were presented at the conference, with 25 outstanding papers selected for publication in an edited volume to enrich academic discourse. The ‘Ideapreneur’ Business Plan Competition received an impressive 86 entries from across the nation, featuring a diverse range of innovative ideas. After a rigorous selection process, 20 exceptional teams were shortlisted to compete in the thrilling finals. The team from St. Xavier’s University Kolkata clinched the top spot at the competition, taking home a cash prize of Rs 30,000. The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) was awarded the first runner-up prize of Rs 20,000 for their remarkable ingenuity.
