Jaitley presents Rs 36,766 cr ‘please all’ budget for city

‘Increase in power tariffs are necessitated due to increase in input costs. However poor should not suffer therefore I propose a power subsidy of Rs 260 crore for 2014-15,’ said Jaitely. The subsidy will reduce power tariff for the lowest slab of 0-200 units by Rs 1.20 per unit and further Rs 0.80 per unit for 200-400 units slab. Presenting a total budget of Rs 36,766 crore for Delhi, the finance minister has allocated Rs 17,700 crore under plan fund for various development projects.

Besides power and water, the government has given emphasis on health sector by announcing to set up a new medical college with 100 seats in Rohini and augment two government hospitals as ‘model hospitals’. The government has also proposed to set up one stop centres for crisis management and rehabilitation of victims of sexual assaults in each district in government hospitals. Besides to expedite the medico legal cases, the government will set up three more forensic science laboratories. In total the government has allocated Rs 2,724 crore to health sector which is 16.3 percent of total plan outlay of city for 2014-15. 

The Finance Minster has also announced to set up new educational institutions from school to technical institutes in the city and also hostels for working women. 

To benefit lowest section of population a budgetary provision of Rs 600 crore has been made to provide pension to needy to over 4.3 lakh senior citizens and persons of various various categories.
Besides, a provision of Rs 35 crore has been made to provide toilet complex facility in Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters (Slums) and promised to complete construction of over 40,000 EWS houses in this financial year. The government has also made provision for beautification of Yamuna river front, development of sewage treatment plants to control pollution in the river. A proposal to purchase 1380 semi-low floor buses for DTC and 400 cluster buses would be added in the fleet of transport system.
