Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat inaugurated the Indira Amma Bhojanlaya at Transport Nagar near ISBT on Thursday.
Rawat said, “Former PM Indira Gandhi is still a big leader for poor. A two-time public survey revealed that she was the most popular public figure of all times. Her name is symbol of optimism among the poor and encourages them to live life with dignity.”
Sources said the eatery can feed around 100 people at a time. The project has been initiated in 12 districts.
Rawat lauded the Mussorie-Dehradun Development Authority’s (MDDA) efforts to complete the task on time to commemorate the former Prime Minister’s birth anniversary in most pragmatic way.
The Chief Minister said, “Following her (Indira) footsteps, the state government is working on three goals. One is to provide clean, healthy nourishment with pocket-friendly charges at least one time in a day to people with meagre income; second is to boost women empowerment as state cannot progress by ignoring women and third is to ensure the overall development of the state.”
