Pulling up the defence ministry for 'zero tolerance' towards views other than its own, a parliamentary panel on Friday asked it to include representatives of NGOs and outside organisations in inquiry committees probing sexual harassment cases in armed forces.
In its report tabled on Friday, the Committee on Empowerment of Women alleged that the defence ministry had been ignoring its recommendations and had 'zero tolerance' towards views other than it own even if they come from the Supreme Court or other Parliamentary panels.
The committee had earlier recommended that outside members be included in these inquiry committees to bring in greater integrity to the mechanism currently available with the forces to deal with complaints of sexual harassment and ensure compliance with Supreme Court judgements in this regard.
'The Committee urges the Ministry to be a bit more accommodative and explore possibilities of implementing their recommendation, so that the issue of of harassment of women at workplace as well as protection of whistle blowers are taken care of,' the report said.
On the defence ministry's answer on the issue, the committee said 'it was startled to see the reply which reveals zero tolerance towards any different view than its own even if from a Parliamentary Committee or the Supreme Court of India'.
