Hearing on govt formation due on Friday, parties still clueless

The next hearing on government formation in Delhi is due in Supreme Court on Friday. In its previous hearing, the constitutional bench of the apex court had directed the Centre to take a decision on the issue within one month and listed the case for hearing on 10 October.

‘We have no role in the court case as the matter is between the Central government and the Supreme Court. As far as Delhi BJP is concerned, we stick with our previous stand that we will make a call if Lieutenant Governor invites us for government formation. We are even ready to face the election any time,’ said Satish Upadhayay, Delhi’s BJP president. He further emphasised on the need of an elected government in the city either by revival of the present assembly or through fresh elections.

Senior BJP leaders have distanced themselves from the issue of government formation in Delhi as they are currently focussing on assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra. ‘A decision may be taken on political future of Delhi only after the results of both these states are announced,’ said a senior leader of the party.

Satish Upadhayay also rubbished the suggestions of Aam Admi Party MLA Rajesh Garg that BJP and AAP should rule the city for two years each.

The political pandits had started predicting a BJP-ruled minority government in Delhi after SC asked the Central government to take a decision by October 10 on government formation.

The bench had sought a ‘positive’ response from the Centre on government formation in Delhi.
Meanwhile, ahead of SC  hearing on government formation, Arvind Kejriwal wondered whether the President had returned file in which Jung had recommended that the BJP should be invited to form the government.

In a tweet Kejriwal said the President had returned the file to the Union Home Ministry, but in the same length asked whether the news was true. ‘LG recommended that BJP shud be invited to form govt. Sources - President has returned file to Home min. True?’ the former Delhi Chief Minister tweeted.
