Delhiites will get more destinations for outings in the coming years as Delhi Government is planning to develop new tourist destinations in the city.
“There are a few destinations in the city for outings like India Gate. We will explore possibilities to develop more tourist destinations in the city to provide some better options for outing to Delhiites,” said Kapil Mishra, Minister for Tourism on his first day at the office.
Mishra, who also holds <g data-gr-id="37">portfolio</g> of <g data-gr-id="38">law</g> department, told that the tourism sector is untapped in the city and there are vast scopes to develop tourist destinations for domestic, national and international tourists as well. The minister also informed that in his first meeting with the officers on Tuesday, they informed that the Signature Bridge will be completed by June 2016.
“The project has missed several deadlines in the past hence I can give a deadline only after visiting the site,” added Mishra.
It is important to mention that the Tourism Department of Delhi government is developing a tourist site at Signature Bridge being constructed on Yamuna in Wazirabad. The minister also emphasised the need to facelift tourist destinations and archaeological sites in the city particularly those which exist in Old Delhi areas.
Mishra is also the first minister in Delhi to hold the post of Chairperson of Delhi Jal Board, a post which was previously held by Chief Ministers. In the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party <g data-gr-id="35">government</g> the post was held by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Mishra was the Vice Chairperson.
“The work is being implemented at a fast pace and within next one and half to two years we will provide piped water to all the colonies in the city,” claimed Mishra.
He also informed that the government has approved a project to lay <g data-gr-id="27">pipe lines</g> in 344 unauthorised colonies.
“DJB has decided to take up 238 unauthorised colonies in the first phase, out of which work is being carried out in eight unauthorised colonies,” informed Mishra.
