Good samaritan, doctor and strategist, BJP’s Harsh Vardhan plays it all on the same day

But the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate had already completed a lot of work by 9 am when I reached his Krishna Nagar residence.

Here is a glimpse of the activities of this workaholic leader who has three back-to-back rallies of his party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Delhi to attend to through the day.

9 am: As he enters his office, he asks his assistants for some important papers in a hurry. These are over a dozen applications for ration cards. Vardhan starts signing them by calling the applicants, mostly women and elderly, one by one. Meanwhile, he directs a television journalist to prepare his team for an interview and at the same time also attends to important calls. He gets up to greet people who have come over to see him.

9.15 am: As the television crew is ready to start the interview, he requests everybody to leave the room. He is over with the interview by 10 am.

10 am: He rushes to attend Modi’s first rally scheduled at 11 am. Meanwhile, some more ration card applicants who were waiting outside rush to his assistants asking to get their applications signed urgently. His assistants rush towards him and request him to sign them. He signs them all leaving everybody happy.

10.10 am: Vardhan is inside his clinic and attends to some of his patients quickly. ‘It’s a very important day for me as I completed 30 years of my medical practice as ENT (eye, noose and throat) surgeon. How can I miss it,’ he remarked and asked the assistant not to charge the patients. From here, he rushes to the rally ground in Shahdara.

12.10 pm: He emerges on stage with Narendra Modi and other senior leader of the party. Five minutes later, he starts his speech coming down heavily on Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on issues of corruption, wrong policies and ignoring trans-Yamuna development. ‘Whenever Delhi demanded something from her, she insulted us. We will create a Delhi of whch you can be proud of,’ he said.

10 pm: He is again among his people attending door-to-door meeting organised by his supporters in Chandan Nagar area of Krishna Nagar assembly seat. He then heads home only to start another set of meetings with party workers to finalise the strategy for next two days left for election campaign.
