Give us time, we have noble intentions: Bhardwaj

The 34-year-old computer engineer-turned-politician, who represents Greater Kailash constituency in Delhi, has also been asked to handle the food and civil supply department responsible for controlling price rise of most vegetables. In an interaction with Siddheshwar Shukla, the minister shared his vision on the portfolios assigned to him.

Auto-drivers have very high expectations from your government. What is your plan to fulfil their expectations?
I am consulting various stakeholders in various sectors from auto-driver associations to general public, traffic police, transport department and various associations. We are conducting very wide consultations to include every aspect of this issue. We will soon come out with a detailed policy.

Can you highlight some aspects of the new policy?
It’s in a very nascent stage. I can’t reveal anything but I can assure you that it will address every stakeholder.

There is news that Delhi government wants to take the right of prosecution of auto-drivers from Delhi traffic police?

I can’t answer it at this stage. I can only say we are considering all the aspects, including this option. There are challenges as transport department doesn’t have sufficient staff. I can’t say we will go with this option or not.

After the recent hike in CNG prices, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asked auto-drivers not to go on strike and assured to solve their problems in two days. Now 13 days have passed. What solution do you have for them?

The chief minister is himself looking into this matter and only he can give the details.

What issues the new policy will address?
We want to make the process of registration of auto-drivers hassle free besides addressing their issues like badges, meters, proper fare, driving licenses, pollution check, harassment by traffic police and transport department officers and complaint of commuters.

You are looking after food and civil supply. What plan do you have to improve the public distribution system or provide relief to consumers?

I am very new in the department. I am just collecting information by having maximum possible meetings with officers, associations and various interest groups.

Any plan to control price hike of vegetables in the city, particularity onion?
Currently, there is no crisis of onion and there is no crisis of price rise. But we will certainly do something to control price rise in the city.

What is your message to the people of Delhi?
Please give me some time to understand the system. We have noble intentions and I want to assure everybody that I must address all the concerns of the people in the due course of time.
