A public advisory was issued by Gurgaon Police on Monday for the New Year’s Eve celebrations, and Commissioner of Police Navdeep Singh Virk asked people and mall/pub operators to strictly follow these guidelines. The 5-km stretch on Mehrauli Gurgaon Road (MG Road) between Bristol Chowk to IFFCO Chowk will be a “No Drive Zone” from 5 pm on December 31 till 2 am on January 1. Special entry stickers will be given to residents of the area. The distribution of these resident entry stickers is being coordinated by Sector 29 Police Station and SHO DLF Phase II through the respective RWAs. Residents of Gurgaon will be given parking space near Leisure Valley Ground.
There would be more than 50 traffic police check points across the city to check traffic violations, especially, in cases of drunk driving. In cases of serious violation of the law, the offender could be arrested. The people of Gurgaon can also avail the services of the hyper local shuttle services to travel from the parking lot to various destinations. According to the data received by the Gurgaon Police, a total of 1,286 offenders were booked solely for drunk driving cases in December 2014.
Keeping the security of women in mind, police also said that if women need to take a cab alone, they should first click a photo of the driver as well as the registration number of the vehicle and email them to [email protected], with their names, mobile numbers, the place from where they took the cab and the destination.
As far as malls and bars are concerned, special joint teams of Revenue, Excise and Police Officials, equipped with videographers, have been formed to check all such violations under Excise Act and take the strictest possible action. To avoid underage drinking, the ID cards of people will be checked to keep a tab on this violation.
