Remembering Ghalib: A tribute to the timeless legacy of Mirza Ghalib

Sahitya Kala Parishad, Government of NCT, Delhi, in association with ‘Ghalib Memorial Movement’, is delighted to present a grand three-day event, ‘Remembering Ghalib…’. This celebration of the life and works of the iconic poet Mirza Ghalib will take place on December 15, 18 and 19, 2024, promising an unforgettable blend of tributes, poetry and cultural performances.

The commemoration will commence on December 15 with a solemn candlelight march from Town Hall, Chandni Chowk, to Ghalib’s Haveli in Ballimaran, inaugurated by Saurabh Bharadwaj, Minister of Art, Culture and Languages. Participants will gather at 5 pm at the Town Hall and the procession will commence at 5:30 pm, walking through the historic streets that resonate with the legacy of Ghalib. Eminent dignitaries, including Dr Suresh K Goyal (Former DG, ICCR), Firoz Bakht Ahmed (Chancellor, MANUU), Badrudduja Siddiqi Najmi and Dr Uma Sharma will pay homage to the great poet. The evening will conclude with a soulful ‘Mehfil-e-Ghazal’ by Imran Khan.

The celebration continues with a ‘Mushaira’ dedicated to Ghalib on December 18th at 6:30 pm at the India Islamic Cultural Centre, Lodhi Road. Renowned poets such as Moien Shadab, Ejaz Popular Meeruthi, Nadeem Shaad and others will share their verses inspired by Ghalib’s timeless poetry.

On December 19 at 6:30 pm, a grand cultural programme at the India Islamic Cultural Centre will include a dance ballet titled ‘Shama Har Rang Mein Jalti Hai Sahar Hone Tak...’ conceptualised by Dr Uma Sharma based on Ghalib’s poetry. The evening will also feature a brief narration on Ghalib by Pavan K Varma (Author, Diplomat and former MP).
