Bringing smiles to the faces of underprivileged children

‘Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers’ celebrated the New Year with underprivileged children on January 6. Earlier celebrations of the new year included initiatives to add joy and cheer in the lives of ‘the abandoned girl child’ at a shelter in Kolkata and destitute boys at ‘a home for the homeless’ in Agartala and Kolkata. The celebration of this new year, held at ‘Gurukul’, a children’s refuge, was all about bringing a smile to the faces of hapless street children on the happy occasion of the New Year.
The programme for the day included songs and dances about the joy of childhood and provided a platform for the children to showcase their talent. Additionally, there was a lot of fun and games for the children to enjoy themselves. The purpose was to allow them to rejoice and celebrate in the true spirit of the new year.
Apart from cakes and chocolates, gifts for the children included study materials and sports kits, basic nourishment and nutrition supplements. The programme ended with a sit-in lunch. Altogether, it was a fitting celebration of the New Year with children who don’t know what celebration all is about.
Swami Girijananda Ji Maharaj from the ‘Ramakrishna Mission’, blessed the initiative. “I bless this very special initiative of ‘Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers’ and wish them all the best for other such projects that they surely have in mind for this region in the future,” he said.
Rupak Saha, Director of ‘Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers’ said, “We, at ‘Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers’, have always extended the pursuit of excellence beyond the four walls of the jewellery showrooms and extended a helping hand to come to the aid of all that was ailing in society and central, in this direction, is our contribution towards supporting initiatives to rescue abandoned women and children.”
“The smile on the faces of the happy children enjoying themselves at our celebration of the New Year said it all for them and that is what made our New Year celebration really special,” shared Arpita Saha, Co-Director of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers’.
The daytime ‘New Year Carnival’ for underprivileged children was followed by a drive to distribute blankets and food packets for pavement dwellers and find some relief from hunger and brave the winter months.
“Once again, the look in the eyes of people left out in the cold said it all and made our day!” said Rupak Saha.
