Eight more corporate houses join Ggn bus-pooling group

The initiative of Gurgaon Police to put cars off the roads through ‘bus pooling’ among big corporate houses have received a shot in the arm as eight more companies voluntarily joined the scheme. The firms will pool their bus fleet to provide pick up and drop facility to the employees of all the companies of the ‘bus pool’ group residing on that route.

Information technology giant Nagarro, which has a total strength of 2,700 employees, has made a special arrangement of 22 CNG buses for its employees commuting inter-city for work. The buses have replaced around 55 cabs which were earlier used by the company and have also helped the employees to cut their travel expenses by more than 50 per cent. The employees were earlier paying around Rs 4,200 a month which has come down to Rs 1,500 now.

The company has also made its office timings more flexible by offering two work shifts — 8 am-5 pm and 9 am-6 pm — for its employees. The employees are car-pooling with people living nearby. Some of them have even planned to switch to car-pooling on a long-term basis.

Snapdeal, Nagarro and Incedo are three out of the eight corporate firms that have started a combined bus-pooling service. They have 44 buses running twice — 8 am to 5 pm and 9 am to 6 pm. They have together hired 44 buses for the purpose which helps around 960 employees. “The odd-even policy has helped in triggering the people to opt for public or shared transport. We at Nasscom are encouraging people to use shuttle buses or car-pools for commuting,” said Nitin Seth, MD and Country Head for Fidelity Worldwide Investment in India and co-chairperson NASSCOM, regional council, Haryana.
