Contrary to expectations, the cut-off list for admission to premium B.Com (Hons) course of University of Delhi this year is reasonable compared to previous years. Unlike the record high cut-off percentage that Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is known for, this time it settled at 98.25 per cent for Economics, 97.5 per cent for Commerce stream and 97.25 per cent for science and humanities stream. Some years back, it had touched 100 per cent.
Because of the FYUP row, the cut-off, which was to be released on 23 June, was delayed for a week. SRCC was the first college to release cut-off list for the academic session 2014 on Monday. Compared to last year, this time, SRCC cut-off has increased by 0.75 percent for Economics and 0.5 percent for Commerce. Following SRCC, Ramjas and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College have also released their first cut-off lists. Ramjas College has set the first cut-off for Economics at 97.5 percent, for Commerce at 96.75 percent and for science and humanities at 96.5 percent. The cut off hasn’t increased as compared to last year. Shaheed Bhagat Singh College’s first cut-off for Commerce is 96.5 percent and for economics it stands at 96.5 percent. Miranda House has set its cut-off for economics at 97.75 percent and for science and humanities students applying for economics, it is 97 per cent.
In the first cut off released by Hansraj College, for commerce course it is 97.25 percent and for economics it is at 98 per cent. For science and humanities, it is 97 per cent. ‘In 2011, when SRCC set its cut-off at 100 percent, it disappointed many students. This time, it is sensible,’ said a teacher.
Most of the colleges famous for commerce faculty have this time adhered to a rational cut-off and it is expected that many students will get admission easily. The average cut-off for economics in DU is 97.45 per cent whereas for commerce it is 97 percent. Students can take admission till 3 July. Over 2.7 lakh students had applied for admission to DU for over 54,000 seats in 64 colleges.
