Despite repeated warnings, Delhi University’s sports council chairman was seen carrying a mobile phone during the counting of votes for the Delhi University Students’ Union elections on Saturday. Carrying mobile phones inside counting centres is strictly banned.
Delhi police officers caught CS Dubey, who is also former chief election officer, with a cell phone in the police lane where counting of votes was taking place.
When asked for an explanation, Dubey claimed that he was the pro vice-chancellor of Delhi University. He also threatened Millennium Post journalist with ‘dire consequences’ for questioning him on the matter.
‘How can you stop me from going to the counting centre with my cell phone. I am the pro vice-chancellor of the university. I am not a thief and I wasn’t associated with student organization,’ he claimed. Chief election officer clarified that Dubey had nothing do to with the counting process and that he wasn’t aware why Dubey visited the area with his cell phone. ‘He (Dubey) is not a member of the election committee,’ Vohra clarified.
