Dr Vardhan coy over meeting with Rajnath, says party ready for polls

Speculation is rife on the future role of Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan after he met the party’s national president Rajnath Singh on Monday morning. However Vardhan denied any developments on his part.

Meanwhile, the party’s state office is abuzz with rumours of his elevation as union health minister in Narendra Modi’s cabinet. Vardhan had earlier said that elections in the city are imminent and the sooner it happens the better.

‘I will perform whatever role the party assigns to me. Currently, I am focusing on my latest role as member of parliament (MP) from Chandni Chowk by understanding the constituency’s issues and trying to find amicable solution for them,’ said Harsh Vardhan.

He added that the meeting with Singh was just a courtesy call. Vardhan also avoided questions on whether he would retain the Krishna Nagar assembly seat.

‘These issues will be decided by the party and I will resign from any seat as per the directions from them,’ added Vardhan. He further added that both seats were important to them.
Vardhan was more forthright on the future of the Delhi assembly and indicated early elections for the same.

‘The assembly can’t be put under suspended animation any longer. We are not in the position to form the government and the president of India is the final authority on the matter,’ he said.
He added that his party is prepared for elections if it is announced within a week.

‘If AAP wants to form the government again, it would be most unfortunate and highly unethical on AAP’s part as they had banked on high moral grounds. If they dare so, the people of Delhi will teach them a bigger lesson this time,’ he added.

Vardhan also indicated a reshuffle within the party and said that the party will conduct work audit of all officer bearers to revamp, restructure and rejuvenate the organisation.
