Amit Singla, directorate of education of Delhi, said, ‘After reconsidering many times on this decision of allowing private unaided schools to run double shifts, we have issued orders to all such schools to run a second shift. Looking at nursery admissions there have been demands of second shift, but up until now these institutions have been turning us down.’
Singla added, ‘If double shifts are exercised, it will solve problems regarding nursery admissions too, and the admission forms for the second shift will be available in schools from this year.’ According to the order, ‘Schools shall admit students strictly following neighborhood criteria in view of safety and security of students studying therein. School shall not have timings overlapping with the morning shift and there shall be a gap of at least half-an-hour between two shifts.’
Singla further added ‘As per the existing norms school will have to grant admission to students belonging to economically weaker and disadvantage group category. We can ask the schools opting for a second shift to submit a separate form regarding annual information about staff/students/fees etc.’
A senior Government official said, ‘For running the second shift there is no need to take Non Official Certificate (NOC) from any land owning agency such as DDA.
