Two girls forced into prostitution, rescued

New Delhi: Dream of a better future in the city turned into a worst nightmare for two girls who were forced into prostitution and sexually abused in Central Delhi's GB Road area. Police said that both were trafficked on the pretext of a job. Three accused including two women were arrested in the case. The girls are the natives of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.

Revealing the details of one of the cases, a senior officer told Millennium Post that around two years ago the 19-year-old girl was trafficked from Andhra Pradesh to Begumpur. She was working as a maid at a house where husband-wife lives.

"Six months ago, the girl was sold in GB Road area by the couple where she was sexually exploited. During further probe, a fact cropped up that the 19-year-old had an abortion which is being investigated," said investigator.

On August 2, the girl was later called back to Begumpur. Investigation revealed that she was sexually exploited by the woman's husband.

Later the girl, with the help of a rope made with clothes, escaped through the window of the house where she was kept. "After escaping, she met one Virender who took her to the police station. The girl informed cops about the incident which led to the arrest of the husband-wife from Begumpur. The accused were identified as Harish and Saroj,"

police said.

DCP (central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said that they take quick action after receiving information related to human trafficking. "We conduct regular raids and arrest criminals involved in such crime," said DCP Central. The team under ACP (Kamla Market) Amit Kaushik and SHO (Kamla Market) Sunil Dhaka made the arrest.

In another case, Delhi Police and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) rescued an employee of a private company from Kotha Number 68 in GB road.

According to DCW, the girl came to Delhi on June 8. The girl's brother had recently received a call from an unknown person who informed him that his sister is in Delhi at GB Road. The brother himself went to GB road brothels as a customer and saw that his sister had been forced into flesh trade.

DCW was further informed by the brother about his sister. The DCW team along with Delhi Police visited Kotha number 68 from where the girl was rescued. "The girl informed that she was raped at GB road every day by 15-20 men," the women commission said.

DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal stated, "A time bomb is ticking every day in Delhi in the form of GB road brothels. If people think it will not touch them, it's not true! This girl who was sold at GB road is a graduate girl who was working in a private company. Her ordeal is horrific."
