Min Kailash Gahlot orders infrastructural assessment of CCIs
New Delhi: Women and Child Development Minister Kailash Gahlot on Saturday ordered infrastructural assessment of all Child Care Institutions (CCIs) in the national Capital.
The Minister approved the plan for integrated complexes for children requiring institutional care that should be worked out in consultation with experts, architects, and PWD and developed as a model for the country to follow, the Minister instructed.
Gahlot explained that children placed in CCIs should feel at home and till the family is found for restoration or adoption, the Government will bear all the responsibilities of a guardian, providing remedial care and protecting their well-being.
The WCD department has established and maintains 26 such Child Care Institutions (CCIs) across the city and has given registration to at least 74 NGOs to run such institutions. As of June 30, 2022, the attendance of children in the institutions was 3104 and in the financial year, 2021-22 total of 7132 children were admitted to these CCIs out of which 5,805 children were restored to their families.
Gahlot directed the officials to ensure that any child found in a difficult situation is taken into the safety net and further said that the District Magistrates are the Nodal Authority in the district and they must endeavour to reduce vulnerability and safeguard the interests of children.
During the pandemic, 363 orphan children were brought under the government's assistance out of which sponsorship has been given to 232 children placed with kinship and 39 children have been taken into institutional care.
