New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday lauded Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) for its work in collecting women and raising a voice against rape, saying such enthusiasm is not there in any other women's commission of the country.
Mr Sisodia was speaking at the human chain of the #RapeRokoIndia campaign which he attended along with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister for Water, Tourism, Culture, Arts & Languages Rajendra Pal Gautam and DCW chief Swati Maliwal in Central Park, Delhi.
'The Delhi Government supports the whole campaign from road to the assembly. We are working on making engineers and doctors in schools and colleges, but we should also work on making such citizens that even when they stand anywhere in the society, there is no rape incident there,' the Deputy CM said.
In a protest against the rape of infants in the capital, Ms Maliwal on February 13 launched a nationwide campaign 'Rape Roko' with the students to fight sexual violence.
Ms Maliwal demanded strong laws to ensure that each and every case of rape of children is dealt with swiftly and strictly. Necessary amendments should be made in the IPC and POCSO Act for imparting death penalty within six months of the crime being committed.
She demanded setting up of additional fast track courts for sexual assault cases and immediate creation of 14,000 posts in Delhi Police approved by Ministry of Home Affairs.
